Granada Metro

A single metro line linking the south of Granada with the north

Updated on 24 February 2025

Since September 2017 Granada has had a light rail line, the «Metropolitano de Granada», which runs right through the city to link Albolote and Armilla, two towns on the outskirts. For now there is only one line, but it is very handy and efficient.

General information

The Granada Metro is a single line linking the north of the city with the south, 16km in total. It runs 7 days a week from 07:30 until 23:00, and on Fridays and Saturdays until 02:00, so it’s an ideal way to get around the city.

To use it you need a stored-value card that you top up as you go. There are 2 types of card that are useful for visitors:

  1. The flexible card costs €0.30 (there is also a rigid card for €1.80). You can top it up with €5 to €20 and it lets you make a journey for €0.82. You can also use the same card for groups of up to 15 passengers, as long as they travel together and no more than 3 minutes pass between the first and the last validation in the group.
  2. The 1-day tourist card lets you make as many metro journeys as you like in one day for a fixed price of €4.50. This card is for one person only.

You can also buy a single ticket for €1.35.

All types of ticket are sold at the ticket machines at every stop. You can top up your card there too, and they accept card payments.

Here is a map of the metro stops. We also recommend visiting Alcázar Genil station, an underground station that incorporates the archaeological remains found during its construction.

To make things easier, we recommend Moovit, a brilliant app for getting around the city because it works out your route using the different types of public transport, which here means buses and the metro. You can plan your route on its website or download the app for Android or iOS.

There is also a journey planner on the Granada Metro website, but it only works between metro stops, so it isn’t as useful.
